Professor Barbara Damashek—Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre—is one of the leading lights of the professional American Theatre. She is the author of many Musical Theatre pieces, most notably “Quilters,” for which she was nominated for three Tony Awards, and which has been produced extensively all over the world. She has directed for many of the leading professional theatres in this country, including Berkeley Rep, the Magic, South Coast Repertory, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Trinity Rep, and the Denver Center.
She holds an M.F.A. from Yale, and has taught at UC Irvine, SF State, the ACT Conservatory, the Trinity Rep Conservatory, and the O’Neill Theatre Institute. At SF State she will lead the Musical Theatre program, teach workshops in acting for both non-musical and Musical Theatre, direct Musical and Opera productions, and develop a lab for the creation of new Musical Theatre.
