Hatem Adell

( He/Him/His )
M.A. Alumnus

Hatem Adell (he/him) is a theater professional and scholar. His academic focus is Early Modern Race Studies and Early Modern Theater History and Practice. His culminating experience for his MA proposed expanding the definition of Shakespeare's Race Plays to include all those where race crafting is centered. With dual cast cue script readings and recent scholarship, he made the argument for the addition of Antony and Cleopatra, and The Tempest to the category, as well as Shylock as the focus of race crafting in Merchant of Venice. Hatem has directed, acted, or designed well over 100 plays.
